I'm currently debating whether to get a new laptop or the parts for the mantis. It might not happen this year. FireArrow V2, however, is definitely getting built.

I've been meaning to ask, what's that white plastic on your bots? Is it printed? It looks nice, but I don't really trust printed plastic for structure.

EDIT: My bad, I thought those were yours, I didn't read where it said Team Astrobot's.

Lawl, yeah those aren't my robots. If I had a 3D printer though, I'd totally use it.

The plastic held up pretty well, though Scorpius' front end didn't look too good after it lost to enterprise. They stuck spring steel panels on Gemini and it didn't get damaged too badly.

As far as the 3D printed chassis go, they sustained no real damage. Gemini took a number of pop shots from Grande Tambor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNCRSnudfAU) and the only damage was some bent and broken spring steel.

As for Scorpius, the only damage was cosmetic to the outer first layer, against Enterprise (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFg1hqkZ5Ws)
Future plans are to add Ti wedge armor on Gemini & UHMW wheel guards on Scorpius.

Okay, so the discontinuing of 22.2:1 sparks has left me with a decision to make: Should I stick with the 33.3s that i've been using from the beginning, or go up to 11.1s for more speed? is there a serious loss of torque if I go down that far?

If you go to the 11:1's one option would be to go with an overall lower profile. Algos is right on the edge of enough pushing power with ~1.4" wheels using 11:1's on 3S. Something in the 1-1.25" range would probably be a nice balance of speed and pushing power.

You could go to the 11:1s and use a belt to gear them some, they'd hold up better that way, too.

Yeah, I was already gunning for a much lower profile with FireArrow V2. I'd probably be able to run 1.25, it really depends on whether or not it runs inverted with horns at 1. Of course, I have to build it first :V

Anyone have some good pics/videos of antweight overhead spinners (greenwave style with the motor hanging over the robot)? I'm planning to make one of those soonish

Here's the design i've decided on for my mantis wedge:

I'm planning to have the serrated bits be removable depending on the opponent.

haha, not my intention but it definitely looks like it, doesn't it?

the actual shape was inspired by the beetleweight Chestnut that won at MIT last year.
