Titanium vs Polycarbonate density
« on: July 21, 2015, 09:52:40 pm »
I'm sorry guys this is the wrong spot for this but i didn't know where else to put and i didn't want to start a new topic. On the viper kit i want to replace the polycarbonate with a titanium wedge. Is the same area of 1mm titanium heavier than that same area of polycarbonate or not.

Feel free to make your own thread for questions. Use this for checking weight of things, its very useful:

So if you do that you will find that the titanium will be about 20% heavier, however my opinion is it will be worth it due to the increase in defence you will get.

ok thanks travis. And the poly on the front of viper kits is over 1mm thick is it not so i should be able to do it. I am trying to get a bot so that I can come to the expo in September and hopefully battle some people.

There's plenty of extra weight in the basic wedge Viper to make the armor titanium.  The lifter/spinner add-ons will require some house-cleaning if you're going to do it though.

The polycarb wedge it comes with is 3mm thick, and titanium is roughly 4x as heavy as polycarb, so yes a 1mm titanium wedge will be slightly heavier.
