NERC Franklin Institute 2015 Event
« on: June 15, 2015, 08:19:19 pm »
The 9th annual Franklin Institute event in Philadelphia, PA will be held on October 24, 2015.

Weightclasses will include 1lb, 3lb, 12lb, 30lb, 30lb Sportsmans, and 15lb educational / IQ. Please remember that lithium polymer (lipo) batteries are NOT allowed in 12lb, 15lb or 30lb bots at this event.

Please arrive by 7:00AM. Event will conclude by 6PM.

Register here: http://buildersdb.com/eventdetail.asp?eventid=410

The best place to unload for the event is on 20th St between Winter and Race.
Then park in the parking garage around the corner.
We're on the 1st floor (lowest floor). The garage elevator lets you off on the 2nd floor.

Or you can park directly in the garage and transport your stuff to the event area. But a cart or dolly is recommended since you need to navigate through 2 elevators.

Pardon my newness to this, but are A123s and other LiFes considered LiPos for Franklin?

A123s and LiFe are allowed since they are much less likely to go up in flames. This venue isn't super tolerant of fires and smoke.

As long as I can get a ride there, I'll be bringing 2 ants and a beetle. I wanted to try to do a sportsman but I don't know enough about assembling battery packs to try it. Will definitely have one for Moto.

Will Franklin Institute follow the SPARC or NERC ruleset? Does anybody know about Motorama?

Are there any major differences aside from the ridiculously generous NERC walker/shuffler bonus?

I'm thinking about making a non-wheeled propellor-driven robot, which SPARC gives a weight bonus but NERC does not.

That sucks!
bring your fancy camera and I'll try to remember to pack a lamp. Maybe we can finally get that high speed video with a working bot.
