General Robotics Discussion / 30lb Bot Build

Iím getting a 30lb Combat bot ready for testing at Momo Con Robot Battles and possible water jetting parts and making a more permanent one for Dragon Con Robot Battles. I was planning on adding a weapon but the weight of the bot is already up to 20lb without the chain so it will probably not have any extra weight to add a weapon. The guts of the bot are bane robotics motors geared to 26:1 and 5Ē colson wheels with 19 teeth gears for #35 chain pressed in. The speed controller was going to be a Saber tooth 2x60 but I accidentally reversed the wires to the board and it no longer works so Iím looking at possibly switching to a rage bridge instead of getting another 2x60. Input on anyone that has used a rage bridge would be great, does it work good, does it give a reliable 5v supple to the receiver or will I still have to use a separate supply to power the receiver so it doesn't loose signal? The battery is going to either be a 4 cell 35c 5000mAh or 6 cell 50c 5200 mAh.

Actually I finally got the bot driving then did a complete redesign but I'm still going with a Omni driving system and spinner bot. Unfortunately I'm trying to build three combat bots and a personal bot all at once so I'm hoping to get it so I can take it to Dragon Con which is the main competition I go to.

I am designing a 3lb bot. My idea is basically a Oreo made of two saw blades (not actual saw blades but I will design the body to resemble them) from watching competitions and events I know it is possible to make a bot the drives on 3 wheels put is there a guide or could someone point me in the right direction. I have heard mention of gyro but would even know which one to look at. My design is based on 3 wheels on equal axis around a circle but I haven't figured out how to make the whole driving work. I'm trying to run it on Spark motors 33.3:1 with 3 inch wheels.

I have a CoLiDo DIY Printer, 8" x 8" x 7" Build Size. It runs PLA it is a decent printer not the best but I have printed plenty on it without problems. It comes with good software.

So I just got back from the fights at DragonCon and my bot was way to slow. I know I screwed up on the gear ratio of the motors I bought so before I go and buy new motors I want to make sure I get the right ratio this time. I was running 50:1 silver sparks. It was a sumo bot kit with a spinner put on top. For the complete redesign I'm trying to make one of the 3 wheel spinner bots what would be a good ratio to go with, or what do I need to look at to decided on the motor ratio.

To give some background I'm a decent way through on the design process of a 30lb combat bot. It drives by the back two wheel each being hooked up to their own motor (so standard steering of more power to one side to turn) and it has a spinner blade on the front for flipping/disturbing the opponent. The motors came from some 18v battery powered circular saws. So it has a total of 3 18v motors.

I'm on the hunt for a good battery with decent enough life to be full power for at least one fight if not 3 so I was thinking about a 15 minute life.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Never tested the weapon on the pool table and it has plenty of clearances for the shell to the ground. I'm actually building a 8' x 8' testing area currently.

About the rules. What type of switch would qualify? I currently have a 3lb bot that turns of automatically after having signal disconnect and I have power lights but they are all covered by the shell of the bot.

I'm deffinitly going to that and bring my 3lb bot to its first fight ever. I was just interested in starting a group of people locally to fight more than twice a year/ test out bots and run ideas with.

Thanks. Ive been looking into Air instead of CO2 this week and was planning on using paintball tanks for a main tank and buffer system. I'm aware of the danger and plan to be EXTREMELY careful when it comes to testing and using it. I'm still in the planning phase and my goal is to have a solid plan together by January of February time frame to start assembly but I will have a complete idea of the system before I start investing in it so that I don't start piecing it together and have it not work. I will definitely look into the adding geometry to the picture to decrease my cylinder size.

On another note what about going completely electronic and supercharging the battery system or is that a crazy idea. IE get an electronic cylinder.

I have the ability to build a fighting arena for 1lb an 3lb combat bot fights. I live in the Savannah Ga area but I am interested in starting a group of people or club to fight and test bots at just seeing if there is any interest for this out there.

I have previously posted on another thread about building a 30lb flipper. I have decided to go with a CO2 powered system due to size and weight. I have found most of the parts but I am currently having trouble finding a couple of the parts. I work in metal fabrication so I have checked Mcmaster-Carr and Grainger. I'm basing the system I want to build off of the Team DaVinci's forum guide What is really giving me problems is finding a 5 way valve to control remotely. I am able to add fittings to up or down sizes where they don't match(I know you  have to be careful as to keep the right amount of flow by not using to small of a fitting for a bigger tubing will eliminate the purpose of having the bigger tubing).
The parts I have found so far are
-Regulator - 4000 psi tank max, 125 psi flow (McMaster-Carr 7897A39)
-Cylinder - 180 lbs @ 150psi, 8" stroke (McMaster-Carr 6498K979)
-How to attach to weapon - either - Rod Clevis (McMaster-Carr 4952K101) or Steel Ball joint rod end (McMaster-Carr 60645K351)
-To mount to body - pivot bracket (McMaster-Carr 6498K563)
-Main tank - Empire Paintball 24oz CO2 tank
-Buffer tank - 3Skull Paintball 9oz CO2 tank
-Adapters for tanks - Interstate Pneumatic WRCO2-5A4 CO2 Paintball tank CGA 320 Adapter
If I can find a regulator I'm pretty sure I can make this system work. I'm kind of stubborn or else I would of given up on this flipper idea but I like the challenge of it.

I believe using the existing gear box will work perfect. The motor runs at 4700 rpms(I now a lot more than the normal rpms for a robot drive motor). But with the existing gear box I am running a 1/2" sprocket with 8 teeth to a 2" sprocket with 42 teeth running a 4" tire. So if I have calculated right I'm running it at 10.69 mphs with a ratio of 5.25:1. So plenty of torque and a decent speed. I was aiming for a little faster but with the gear box being of a very convenient design to mount I think I am more than happy with the numbers.
