Alex, surely you have a DPMI that is in the ballpark range of the 12lb sumo class right?  Might as well plan on that instead of the 30s at this point...

the big red one is being lent to someone for this but they haven't seemed to register yet. if they don't i'll bring it as a loner.

Here's my new BW design. the drive will be belt-driven 11.1 silver sparks using the new double-wide 15t pulley they sell. Weapon motor is one of these. Disc diameter is 6in. Not sure if that's too big or not. Still need to design the blade for it. Top and bottom armor will be 16mm garolite, frame rails will be made out of 1/3 uhmw. Side skirts will be cut out of some thin plastic, probably uhmw as well. Not entirely sure if it will be in weight but I can take off skirts and pocket the weapon rails if I need to.

just to give you a sense of size, riptoff my 15lb's disk is 6" dia.

what design benefits do you really see by making it that big?

uhmw pro tip, drill out you corner locations and rough cut it with a jigsaw and then finish it on the mill.

cdo a little test. take a endmill. stick it in your cordless drill. take stock and put in benchtop vise. now try to mill it.

A bit more of an update:

El Destructo is now a closed structure with a top plate on and the new side wheel protectors. I probably should make a more permanent solution than those screws, but they are really helpful because of the ability to adjust the height. I still need to order that bronze sleeve, but after that, I guess it will be in competition ready state.

swap those wood screws with something like 1/4" lag bolts
